Racing in the rain - Femke 7th in BRL Light 2008!

The last races of the season where driven from 24-26 October at Circuitpark Zandvoort. During the Final Races the championship was decided. After a sunny Saturday with a technical problem for Femke Terpstra, the Sunday was completely spoiled by rain. It was even more wet then during the A1GP!!
Femke drove well and finished twice on a ninth position. She finished herewith on a good 7th position in the championship of the BRL Light 2008, in which she raced as only female against 21 man.

Soaked wet A1GP still P8 and 10

During the A1 Grand Prix weekend from 3 – 5 October in the dunes of Zandvoort, the weather gods were not well-inclined towards the racing public. The weather constantly changed from wet to dry, after which on Sunday the rain just kept falling out of the sky.
Femke Terpstra maintained her position and drove to a 8th and 10th position.

Well done 4th place for Femke at Zolder!

During the Belgium Truck GP at Zolder on
13-14 September, Femke obtained her best result ever!
Femke: ‘I’m catching up with the front of the championship, my fourth place is a prove of this! Besides I’m now fifth in the championship, something I hadn’t expected at the beginning of the season!’

Two constant races at Zolder

During the Masters of Formula 3, 9-10 August, on the Belgium circuit of Zolder, Femke drove two constant races despite the changing weather conditions.
A break in a cable which drives the engine caused problems. The driver from Berkel finished eventually twice on a ninth position.

Interview Femke in newspaper AD!
National newspaper AD published an extensive interview with Femke on August 6.
“Well, my love for motor racing started very early,” tells Terpstra. “I always watched with my father, who loves cars, to Formula 1 races. I liked it a lot. I was also helping my father painting the car when I was little from out of the trunk!”

Progression made in Assen
The second race was held on 5-6 July at the TT-circuit of Assen. Despite heavy rain on Friday, it stayed dry during the weekend.
Femke Terpstra showed during free practice what her goal was: making progression. During qualification she was unfortunate to have the front left tire going flat, this cost her a top ten qualification.
The races had action and a long safety car period and some bad luck at the end. After all Femke made progression with a tenth and eight position.

Learnt a lot in first race

During the first race of the season, Pinksterraces at Zandvoort, Femke learnt a lot about the team and her new car.
The sunny races where long safety car situations made it difficult to race. Femke finished twice on a tenth position which brought her quite some points.

Let the new season start!

The first race of the new season is coming close: on Second Whitsunday (Tweede Pinksterdag) it’s racing time!

Femke: ‘I look forward to the next season! PP-Mechanic’s has been champion and vice-champion last season. After a lot of technical misfortune in 2007, I hope to be released from this in 2008. Of course, it is still a mechanical sport, but I sense that it’s going to be a good season! I hope that I can give serieus gas in the near future!’
Femke will be supported by Fast Lane Promotions, Active Personeelsdiensten, Collé Rental & Sales en Munckhof Groep.

SEASON 2007
________________________________________________________________________
Mechanical misfortune dominated 2007 season
During the final and seventh race of the Benelux Racing League, Femke Terpstra drove her fifth race in the BRL Light on Circuitpark Zandvoort. Terpstra improved her personal fastest lap time with 1.6 seconds during the free practice on Friday, which could predict a very positive weekend!
Unfortunately bad luck was still present, Femke’s season ended in the pit lane with a broken drive shaft. Illustrative for a year in which she did not knew much technical luck, but nevertheless gained a lot of experience!

Learned a lot during exciting weekend
During the Dutch A1 Grand Prix, attended by approx. 98.000 race fans, Femke Terpstra drove her fourth race in the BRL Light. Also this weekend begun with bad luck: caused by a technical braking problem Femke crashed with about 150 km/h in the tires. Luckily she remained unharmed. The predicted rain for Friday felt on Saturday which resulted in a wet race for race 1, a good and fair fight in race 2 made it a good and instructive weekend.

Future on the visor?
Femke departed on Sept. 24 with her father for a reader’s journey of the Dutch Autokampioen on an exclusive visit to the Toyota Formula 1 factory in Cologne, Germany.
The central starting point was Toyota’s Dutch importer Louwman & Parqui in Raamsdonkveer. From there the conveyance to Cologne was a Toyota Yaris T-Sport. Not bad!
The visit itself was very extensive, among others the composite and engine department where visited. Impressive was the immense wind tunnel.
In short: the future on the visor? Yes please!

Despite bad luck, still eighth place!
During the Dutch Champ Car Grand Prix, visited by more than 60.000 race fans, Femke Terpstra drove her third race in the BRL Light. The weekend began with bad luck: a technical problem and a collision. An unexpected cloudburst turned race 1 in a wet race, a good eighth place in race 2 made it good weekend.

Continues improvement in BRL Light
During the Belgian Champ Car Grand Prix, Femke Terpstra drove her second race in the BRL Light. The weekend started well, Femke made many meters, which resulted in quickly improving lap times. During the races she showed she’s entering the mid field already. Unfortunately she got a technical failure, destroying the hard work of Femke, her engineers and the team.

Successful debut in BRL Light

During the Rizla Racing Days at the Assen TT-circuit Femke Terpstra made her debut in the BRL Light. The aim was to finish the two races and gain experience.
With a tenth and eleventh place which included 11 points for the championship, this goal was largely achieved. It is a successful debut which opens many perspectives!

Green light for Femke in BRL Light
The well known TT-circuit of Assen was the last test, before Femke enters the major league of The Netherlands, the BRL championship, on July 18. Femke, with starting number 65, used the last test to get more familiar with the set-up of the car. She drove tirelessly round after round, which resulted in faster lap times.
Femke will make her debut in the championship during the Rizla Racing Days, Aug. 10 to 12, at the TT-circuit of Assen. Femke: "I cannot wait to start! It will be an exciting and fun experience!"

M7 Racing immediately stops In The Picture Team!
On July 24, M7 Racing decided to immediately stop the "In The Picture Team" concept. The drivers have won through a contest a free season racing in a MINI Cooper of M7 Racing, including obtaining their racing license. The drivers gave everything they have and are in first place of the championship. Nevertheless, the team boss expected more from the team's possible sponsorships and the cooperation with the Dutch motor racing magazine START. Without this, the concept is now financially irresponsible as he says.
Femke: "I understand the situation and thank START and the entire M7 Racing Team for the opportunity, the pleasant and relaxed atmosphere during the races. I can recommend M7 Racing as an affordable alternative in motor racing, because it costs you € 7500 per person to race a season long."
From now on, Femke will fully focus on racing in the BRL Light championship.

Again podium in Cooper Cup!
During the sunny weekend of July 7-8, the Cooper Cup was a guest of the DNRT at the Belgian circuit of Zolder. No unknown terrain for Femke, where she tested with the BRL Light. Despite a near crash, a spin and technical problems, the M7 START MINI Team In The Picture finished on second place during this weekend. And just as important: retained the lead in the overall rankings!

Again podium in Cooper Cup!
The M7 START MINI Team In The Picture won their second victory in a row! The third race of the Cooper Cup was raced on June 17 at the TT-circuit of Assen. The Sunday started well with a pole position. Despite the changing weather conditions, which were accompanied with heavy rain, the team was able to gain the final victory! This made the M7 START MINI Team In The Picture also the new leader of the championship.

A wish has come true: testing at Spa-Francorchamps!
Before Femke will race in the BRL Light at Assen on August 12, she will test on various circuits. The illustrious Formula 1 race of Spa-Francochamps will be held in September. Femke went first and drove on June 5 many laps on the 'sacred' asphalt. The test got an extra dimension because Team Fanzonely used the brand new Formula-1 pit boxes.
Femke: "This circuit is a challenge! Because of the height differences, the length and the layout of the circuit , it is incomparable with the circuits which I have driven on so far. Every second is an ultimate enjoyment! I have learned a lot by driving with this car and I want to thank Niels Hartvelt and Dick Freebird who coached me during this day. "

Successful BRL test at Zolder
In a spectacular setting, where among others current WTCC champion Andy Priaulx tested his WTCC BMW, drove Femke on May 3 her first official test in the Fanzonely BRL Light on the Belgian circuit of Zolder.
Femke increased speed, which resulted in quickly lowering lap times. Finally she noted a very good result for her very first test. Femke was coached by Niels, her mechanics Koen and Mike did a good job by preparing the car well. In addition, she got input from the Fanzonely data engineer Nils.

Femke also starting in BRL-Light!
Femke Terpstra will start this season as well in the Benelux Racing League (BRL-V6 and BRL-Light). Both championships form the most competitive and loved racing league of the Netherlands. This means that Femke will come into action, next to the Cooper Cup with the M7 START MINI In The Picture Team, as well in the Fanzonely BRL-Light during the most important motor racing events of the Benelux. Namely the ChampCar races at Zolder and Assen plus the A1GP at Zandvoort.
Femke: “I am really happy to get this opportunity and will do everything that is in my capability to put up a good performance. I thank 2Produce and Fanzonely for this opportunity and the support. In one word: great, we’re going to make it a beautiful season!
I do as well pursuit an appealing result with the M7 START MINI In The Picture Team in the Cooper Cup on the Circuit of Assen at April 15.”

First race Cooper Cup: unfortunately DNF
At March 30 the first race of the Cooper Cup was held at the renewed circuit of Assen. When the fog disappeared around noon it was time to let the cars go out, that is to say: behind the safety car. The view was good enough during qualifying to step on the gas. The team put the Cooper on the front row at the second starting position.
The race started with some beautiful overtaking actions, by which a small gap occurred between the orange racing car of the M7 START MINI In The Picture Team at the second place and the green Cooper at first place. After the pit stop it was Femke’s turn. Unfortunately turned out after two laps that the complete car was shaking during acceleration.
The team controlled several options, but could not find a solution. Femke returned to the track for some laps, but at the end she had to give up. A wear out drive shaft at the left front cost the team a beautiful podium finish.
Femke and the M7 START MINI In The Picture Team will get a new opportunity during the second race of the Cooper Cup on April 15 at Assen.

2Produce new personal sponsor!
Femke is pleased to announce that 2Produce, in the person of owner Yvo Alexander, will support her during the start of her motor racing career. It is an unknown territory for her, as a result of which the need for an advisor, who knows it’s way around in motor racing, was huge. Yvo Alexander is a motor racing enthusiast, well known with motor racing sponsoring and has a good sense for scouting upcoming talents. Several ladies will be active in various championships for 2Produce in 2007. 2Produce started in 2006 with sponsoring, particularly ladies, in motor racing. During the past year among others Carlijn Bergsma and Gaby Uljee raced for the Fanzonely Team in the BRL Light championship.
2Produce is a young organisation active in PR/Marketing and product development within several market segments. The organisation is as of January 1st 2007 the exclusive agent for Contender Flagship Nascar 50-FR material in Europe.

Femke obtains racing license with many compliments of instructors!
During the first weekend of February, Femke followed the racing course from Advanced Driving School under supervision of Peter Grondel. The course was driven at the beautiful TT-circuit of Assen.
The course started with breaking exercises and some careful laps around the track. At Friday it was very slippery, because the track was wet. Later on the day everyday practised at the skid track, Femke succeeded in keeping her car out of a sideslip! A lot of kilometres where driven Friday afternoon, Saturday and Sunday morning. Of course there was as well time to learn the necessary theory. The racing licence exam exists out of: 20 theory questions and five laps driving around the track. At Sunday, around 3 o’clock, the moment of truth dawned.
A very positive result: Femke made such a good impression on the KNAF-officials (Dutch authority for motor racing) that she can start with an EU racing licence!

7th position at last race Dutch Championship

The intensive testing program revealed its success during the last KNAF Dutch Championships at the circuit of Amsterdam on October 21 and 22. During qualifying Femke drove half a second faster than she had ever done at this circuit. The weekend was also covered by some technical problems. Three clutch springs broke and during the first race Femke got into a racing accident and had to drive with a bended control stick. Mainly during the last two races Femke showed her pace: both times she gained 10 seconds lead over the following driver. Femke ended the race with a good 7th position.
With this result Femke persevered her tenth position in the driver's championship from 2005 into 2006!

Progression made at the circuit of Amsterdam!

Once back from Venray the team made the decision to start an intensive testing program to finalize this season with a good result at Amsterdam on the 21 and 22 October.
First, Pierre Redeker from Kartteam Redeker took a good look at the front set-up to see what the problem was. The stub axles are set-up differently, what caused that Femke had to learn to know her kart all over again. Luckily, this goes fast and does she also drives fast: she talks with her shrieking tyres now.
The team will continue to practice several times a week to keep up the physical condition and progression.

Tenth place at Venray

Because of the rib injury from last June’s race could not be practised until the beginning of August. Unfortunately started the rainy season at August 1st and did not stop until the beginning of September. By which Femke was not able to practise a lot before the race at the Raceway of Venray. She started the race with only one finished practise session.
The back of the kart was set-up in no time, but Femke was struggling with the front set-up. Which became a problem at the end, because the track was also very tough conditionally. Finally Femke finished in 10th position and 1st at the Ladies Cup.
The next race will be held at the circuit of Amsterdam at 21 and 22 October.

Sport Physics - Sport Physiotherapy

Partly due to Sharon Portegies' good advices Femke was able to overcome her rib injury in a relatively short period. Due to a couple of exercises, which Femke has to continue doing, a new injury should be avoided.
Sharon Portegies has started her Professional Master in Sport Therapy in September 2005. It is her ambition to guide individual and/or team sportsman and sportswoman on match and/or top-class sport level. Sharon will be attending the 5th and likewise last race of the Dutch national karting series on the circuit of Amsterdam at the 22 October. Also visit www.sportphysics.nl.

Rib injury belongs to the past!
The rib injury that affected Femke's results during the last race at Genk, belong to the past. During this race, Henk and Frits Wernsen indicated that they used special foam to avoid rib injuries. This foam must be attached to the inner side of the seat and diverts the pressure on the rib to the complete rib cage. The supplier of this specialty good, developed by the NASA, is Frens Langenberg. Femke and the team want to thank Frens for this foam, by which Femke can drive without rib injuries!

After a well-deserved holiday at the French Riviera it is time to concentrate on the final two races of the season. The next race at the circuit of Venray is planned for 16 and 17 September.

will
be driven the other way around for the Dutch Championships,
which will mean that all drivers have the same changes!

Rib injury averts beautiful top-10 position
On saturday 3th and sunday 4th of June the third round of the Dutch Championships was held at the circuit of Genk in Belgium. The track is 1.360 km long and is defiant for each karting driver.
In heat one, Femke was bumped out of the race by Tobias Kreuger, it was more powerful than it looked, because Femke finished the race with a major rib injury. This is the most feared injury of go-karting. A sport that is, when each driver sticks to the rules, a safe and non-contact sport.
Finally Femke ended heat 1 with a creditable 12th place. With this heavy rib injury it was
certain that a good result in the following two heats, on sunday, where out of reach.
Eventhough, Femke started to fight for position with Rogier Haer in the third heat.
She achieved on character twice the thirteenth position on sunday. She was dazed to
this position as well in the final ranking of this race.
Luckily the next race will be in September, so Femke will have some time to recover
from her injury.

Graduating at AMB i.t. the company behind the official timekeeping
Femke works since December 2005 at AMB i.t. to write her thesis. This company produceses the products for official timekeeping of sportmatches like motorsport, but also Olympic disciplines as cycling and skiing. The Dutch
go-kartingorganisers also use AMB's products: each driver drives with a transponder on it's
go-kart, when they drive over the "detection loop" (start/finish) their laptimes are passed on to the timekeeper.
During the race on the track of Genk there was a problem with the loop in the track and Femke was asked (without knowing she works for AMB) to drive a couple of times over the start/finish line with her go-kart. To save tyres and fuel the race director pushed her over the start/finish line which resulted in a nice picture!

In spite of gaining 1.5 seconds no top 10 result in Veldhoven during the second round

The second race of the Dutch Championships was driven on Mothersday. Together with a nice temperature of 25 C Femke participated in some nice races.
During the second heat Femke continously switched positions with Rogier Haer and Nicky Henkens. In the last heat Femke had to fight for position as well. After overtaking two man she tried to reach Wim de Rue, but the race was a couple of laps to short to overtake him as well.
In spite the fact that Femke was 1.5 seconds faster than last year, she was stil driving around the same position. The answer came right away; it turned out that each season new engines are sold which are slightly faster than the year before. Femke is still participating with a standard engine of 2004, the gentlemen in front are driving anyway with an engine of 2006. This can already change half a second, just what Femke is missing to get to the front! Femke became twelfth afterall.

Storm, rain, hail and sunshine bring a changing 1st Dutch Championship in Amsterdam
This weekend was characteristic of storm, rain, coldness and sunshine. Because of the bad weather during springtime, Femke wasn't been able to practise that much.
Despite this fact she joined the race with great enthousiasm using her new overall and startnumber 10. The number 10 stands for the final position in the rankings of 2005, a number you only "gain".
With on saturday a wet morning and a qualification being wet AND dry it was a hard job to find the right set-up for this race. Due to this, Femke hadn't got the pace. On sunday she went faster and could drive a bit to the front. Afterall she ended up on the thirteenth position in the final ranking of this race.

FEMKE IN THE DTM!!!

Well, you might have one of those days that you have not got that much to do and sent a text message... It can have drastic consequences!! As Femke experienced at the 28th and 29th of August on the circuit of Zandvoort, where she was a VIP-guest to drive with a Mercedes-Benz DTM car over the circuit. This DTM-car was not driven be just anyone, but by the "runner-up" of the DTM in 2004 and currently a Formula 1 driver: Christijan
Albers! He returned once-only in the DTM to give the guest an extreme lap around the track.
And extremly it was!
Femke met Matthias Ekström (Audi driver and DTM champion 2004), Tom Kristenen (Audi driver and 5 times winner of the 24h of Le Mans) and Marcel Fässler
(Opel driver) as well.
